Getting Your Groove On: Leading Guests Out Onto The Dance Floor

by Mia Bolaris-Forget (Staff Writer)

Music selection is an essential part of any good celebration and instrumental for getting the crowd moving and grooving. The opposite also holds true. So, it’s imperative that you know your “audience” and pick the right tunes that will be music to their ears and a "fire" unto their feet.

Golden Oldies: Professionals point out that what was once “old” is becoming new (again), as swing music. This charismatic type of music has a familiar, up-lifting beat, and motivating rhythms. Plus, it holds a special nostalgic character and ambiance that offers fun and distinction.

Strike A Cultural And Exotic Chord: Think about incorporating some “hot” and “spicy” rhythms to your celebration with some music from your heritage or some Latin tunes. Many cultural dances are ideal for getting crowds to the dance floor, and dances such as the merengue, tango, and salsa featuring artists ranging from Tito (Puente) to Ricky Martin, can be a shoe in for guests of all ages.

Round’Em Up: Country music may not seem like a likely choice for a wedding celebration, but according to experts, thanks to artists like Garth Brooks, Reba, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and more, it has gained in popularity, AND, line dancing is an ideal way to get people out on the dance floor.

Put A Little Soul Into Your Celebration: From classics like Barry White to more contemporary artists such as Usher R & B is a soulful way to move your guests off their seats and out onto the dance floor.

Big Band Music: Orchestra music opening the floor up to more traditional ballroom dancing can be especially elegant and romantic for larger affairs. You can even take a few lessons to help inspire your guests or hire a few professionals to lay the groundwork in footloose and fancy-free style.
