With This Dress….I Thee Wed: What’s Factored Into The Fee Of Your Gown:

by Mia Bolaris-Forget (Staff Writer)

From your sweet 16 to your prom and now your wedding, it’s always been all about (or at least partially about) the fashion. What you wear, how you’re going to look as an expression of your love, what it means and who you are has always been part of your own personal and special style, so why “shouldn’t” it be part of the special style for your very special day.

And, there’s no doubt you’ll want to look like a princess as you take the hand of your Prince Charming, but you also probably don’t want to spend a King’s (or Queen’s) ransom on your gown.

As you begin your search however, you’re likely to discover that finding the right dress for her (your) majesty, can be a royal “pain” and a royal expense.

So, what makes a gown so costly? Well, like most things in life it’s often what you buy and where you buy it. And, sometimes (in fact, more frequently than you think) the amount of embellishment rarely has any direct association to fee.

While the intricacy of a dress does play a role in the cost, it’s only one of many contributing factors. In fact, a “simple”(designer) sheath may cost more than an elaborately embroidered gown (depending on the name tag attached.) Fabric is also one of the main determining factors. Materials such as Battenburg lace and Organza (a very fine silk) are generally more expensive than satin, and other synthetic materials. Furthermore, embroidery, stitching, and beading done by hand will be more costly than those done by machine. And experts note, that while you don’t have to break the bank when buying a gown, consider quality over cost and remember that you get what you pay for.
